The Ugly Duckling

Well I'm still alive, kickin', and eating dinner. So it looks like the whole "last supper" scenario didn't turn out. Those of you dissapointed to hear that, you should be ashamed of yourself! (hehe)

The school is a small (400 students) relatively quiet place that runs like most other schools I've been at have. I still haven't met all the students yet, so maybe there is a crazy class somewhere in the mix. Also things usually don't get too crazy until the fall and winter semesters so there's still time for true inner city violence (hehe) but for the time being I'm actually quite enjoying my stay. Stay tuned.

The Last Supper

I'm making sure to get a good meal tonight, because tomorrow I start work in the hood! (or so I've been told.) Yup tomorrow (after 2 weeks at a super really nice small relaxing friendly school) I will be going to the "inner city" of Seto.

I still don't feel scared, but I can't get over this sense of there being something to the fact that everytime I mention I'll be working at "K JHS" people either burst into laughter, or form a wide grin and look at me with eyes that say "sucks to be you!"

I shall keep you updated.

Green Thumb Competition

What you're looking at is the 2nd annual Taylor Balcony Green Thumb Competition. The competitors this year are Itsuki and Graham.

Front right in the photo, sporting pink, yellow, and white flowers that he doesn't know the name of, is the G-dog team flower pot.

Directly behind that (and in front of G-dog) is the Flower Power team supported by Itsuki. Which team will live for the longest... smell the nicest... and survive the harsh summer heat, and cruel rainy season with most petals intact?!?! Stay tuned!

There is an open category contest this year as well. Mini tomato and green/yellow pepper plants are also trying the bid for survival in the "Balcony of Doom!"

Results from last year's competition: After a good start out of the gates, Graham and his team of tomatos, green peppers and eggplants suffered a devastating attack from insects! Entire peppers were lost overnight in a sneak "slug" attack. Mentally drained and deprived of all hope, those tomatos that did survive, suffered a terrible dry season, as G-dog couldn't bring himself to go on the balcony to face (and water) the aftermath.

The moral of the story is: Don't steal dirt from the farmers field beside your apartment because it's full of insects!
